Lisa Buyer, The Buyer Group, interviews Kristjan Mar Hauksson, Nordic eMarketing, on the subject of social media and the marketing mix. Kristjan talks about the problems Iceland faced in the aftermath of a terrible volcano eruption back in 2010 which almost torpedoed the Icelandic summer tourist travel season.

Kristjan talks about ceasing the momentum when it came to Inspiring people to travel to Iceland. Kristjan says whenever there is news about a volcano erupting in Iceland, there is approximately 900% more searches with the term, Iceland, in it than in a given normal year without any volcano eruptions. Kristjan says the trick was to influence those who are searching about Iceland. You need to be vigilant, according to Kristjan, and in using social media applications one must be listening and engaging your users. Kristjan says his company engaged those who were searching about Iceland in the aftermath of the volcano eruption and were able to save Iceland’s summer tourism season.

CSR or social marketing works for a known organisation, it is practised by well-established org. only. CSR for newly born org. is of no value except for NGOs working with Govt. collaboration towards a social cause. 1-This takes a hell lot of investment to practise CSR.
2-The ROI is not visible in short run,but brings in Cash inflow & Goodwill in the market in long-run.

3- Example: TATA,Idea ,Aircel(Save our tiger campaign,1411 magic no.)
4-CSR doesnot indicate responsibility towards society to knowledgable persons but sends + impression to common man & brings business in form of Goodwill & brand image.
5-So NEVER get immotional next time you come across such campaign,it is a marketing tool ONLY.

Email marketing is a way to reach consumers directly via electronic mail. Unlike spam, direct email marketing reaches those interested in your business’ area of expertise. The information is sent out more like a laser-guided missile than a bomb: No matter what you’re selling, it is a way to reach thousands of potential customers directly at a relatively low cost when compared to advertising or other forms of media exposure. It brings your business’ message through an attractive mix of graphics, text and links directly to people who may have never heard of your business or considered your products, but are knowledgeable and interested in your business’ area of expertise.

Social Media Marketing:

The definition of social mediamarketing is hard to truly describe, but a popular definition says that it is the methodical use of marketing with other technological concepts and techniques to achieve specific goals for a company. In simple terms social marketing, means building a business through many different media, like viral videos and blogs, social networking websites (Myspace, Facebook etc) because these give your company exposure.
