I’d like to know how social bookmarking is used for link building?

I’ve read a lot about optimizing websites, but I do not understand how they utilize social bookmarking as a form of link building. Also, if I have 10 articles submitted to different web 2.0 sites, bookmark all of them to one account ~ am I gonna get banned from this?
Thanks in advance.
When you bookmark a site or blog, you add the link to a social bookmarking site. That would be a backlink, from a high PR site. Keywords can be used as tags and this helps your site to rank for those keywords.
Social bookmarking is a very powerful SEO tool. I just bookmarked a site using a not too competitive keyword as tag and it got to page one of Google. I mean the title of the site showed up but it was piggybacking on the popularity of the bookmarking site.
If you have several articles at HubPages, for example, you can bookmark them all in one bookmarking account. However, if you use competitive keywords as tags, don’t expect to come out on page one fast.
Social bookmarking works well in promoting blogs.
